Brown's Point Clean Up

Brown's Point Clean Up

We would like to thank the township of West Milford and acknowledge the work of Commissioners Jonathan Brett and Eric Pain of the NJDEP, for their work in removing the 4 discarded boats and 2 trailers from the area on Brown’s Point where an abandoned house exists.

This is the first of a 3 step program to remove a very dangerous and hazardous situation from the park. Over the next few weeks, the NJDEP will be removing other debris and the third and final step will be West Milford filling a lien against the unoccupied house, once that occurs, demolition of the house should take place in early spring 2021.

Floating Water Island

Floating Water Island

Work continued on Monday June 8th, with the GLC’s efforts to reduce nutrients from Belcher Creek and consequently from GL by installing 5 floating wetland islands. Over 500 plants were planted in the 5 islands and anchored to the creeks bottom off of Camp Hope. This project is made possible through a $52,800. grant received from the NJDEP to help reduce HABS in GL. The program is administered through Princeton Hydro and the GLC. Greenwood Lake Commissioners, volunteers and personnel from Princeton Hydro did the work and installation of the 5 islands

These islands are planted with native vegetation and the plant community on the island will use nutrients in the creek to grow, preventing it from fueling algae blooms in the lake, to some extent.
